As previously hinted on my Facebook page, I have decided to share the recipe for my favorite raspberry smoothie with you. I have a smoothie every single morning, either on its own or with a bowl of oatmeal. This recipe will result in exactly 0,5 L of delicious goodness.
For 0,5 L of this lovely smoothie you will need:
- 2/3 large oranges (I am currently using really small ones so I need about 5 or 6) for 300 ml of orange juice
- 100 g of frozen raspberries (I use fresh during raspberry season and frozen raspberries in the meantime)
- 1 banana (the riper the banana, the sweeter the smoothie)
- 1 lemon
Optionally, you can add more healthy ingredients like chia seeds, coconut milk, maca powder or whatever floats your boat. The base I am using is pure orange juice. I have tried preparing smoothies with unsweetened almond milk but its ingredients made me realise that I was overpaying water that is TWO percent almonds. Personally, I stay away from store bought soy, almond and grain milk because they don’t offer enough for their price.
I also don’t add any sugar, because I’ve cut sugar out of my life about a year ago. Instead, if you don’t find the smoothie sweet enough, try adding honey or stevia, or use a riper banana.
For juicing I use my electric citrus juicer by Siemens (it’s so old I couldn’t find it online anymore) and for general smoothie blending I simply use my hand blender by Braun. Hand blenders are extremely easy to use and easy to clean, plus they don’t take up a lot of space and are multifunctional. My hand blender is extremely powerful so I’ve never had a problem with it.
My partners in crime are these two jars. One of them is a 1L jar and the smaller one is the jar I drink out of. I used to be able to prepare everything in the small jar and just continue drinking from it, but my old hand blender (from the 90’s) broke and apparently they don’t make them as compact as before, so the new hand blender blade can’t fit through the opening of the smaller jar. Also, the new blender I got is far too powerful for mixing 500 ml of liquid in the smaller jar and would most definitely result in spillage. I use the large jar for preparing and the small jar for drinking.
I start off by weighing 100 g of frozen raspberries and adding about a third of the orange juice amount.
I break the banana up into pieces and blend those three ingredients together. It’s much easier to achieve a smooth, clump free smoothie by first blending the hard ingredients with a small amount of liquid and adding the rest of the liquid afterwards.
After you add the rest of the orange juice and give the smoothie a final blend, you’re left with an incredibly tasting smoothie. Enjoy! :)
