Have you heard that black is back? I wasn’t aware that black had ever went anywhere as it seems to have always been the color of elegance and simplicity, but Essence brought out a true black within their gel nail polish collection and named it “Black is back”. This is my second ever black nail polish. While I was in middle school and most of high school, I associated black nail polish with people who labeled themselves as “emo” and it didn’t look very neat most of the time. Now that those times are behind me, I was in the mood for elegant, black nails. Try pairing them with gold nail polish – pure gold!
As always, I was debating whether to splurge on Essie’s Licorice or go the cheaper route, but how different can two blacks actually be? Essence has pleasantly surprised me with the high quality of their new gel line, so I spent a fourth of what I would have paid for Essie’s black polish – €2,49 compared to €9,99 to be exact. Black Is Back is wonderfully smooth to apply and shines bright! When it comes to matte nail polish, I absolutely love the look of dark red and black matte nail polish, and I can confirm that this works fantastically with a matte top coat. One coat of Black Is Back already provides very high coverage, but I went with two to be sure. No wear after two days. After I photographed the shade for this post, I applied the already mentioned matte top coat. Instantly smooth, leatherlike nails. Black and matte work together well, while white, unfortunately, just looks like plain Tipp-Ex. If you still don’t own a black nail polish, now’s the time to get it! :)
